Anesthesia
Grafton Animal Hospital utilizes a variety of the most current anesthetic and pain management protocols that ensures the safety of the procedure with minimum discomfort and side effects. To further ensure safety, we employ monitoring devices such as heart monitors, respiratory monitors, blood pressure and pulse oximeters, so that if a problem should develop, it will be detected and corrected long before it is serious. In addition to the state-of-the-art machines, a veterinarian or technician is always with the patient from the beginning to end of the anesthetic procedure.
Surgery
Our sterile surgical suite provides our doctors with an ideal environment for performing safe and effective surgeries including spays, neuters, soft tissue, orthopedic, and other procedures. In addition to the safety equipment mentioned before, we are well equipped with special equipment (such as radio-surgery and a heated surgery table) that makes procedures faster and safer. We have a good relationship with nearby veterinary surgical specialists, who will give advice on cases and take over cases that are very complicated or require even more specialized equipment. Pain management and prevention is always considered and initiated before any surgical procedure. Presurgical Information and Surgical Options for your Pet.
ICU / Nursing Care
Our post-op / ICU ward is equipped to keep pets comfortable and safe with personal as well as electronic monitoring. Infusion pumps and water circulating heating pads are available when needed. This ward is in the general treatment section of the hospital where our licensed veterinary technicians can directly and continuously observe such patients and give the finest in nursing care.
Isolation Ward
The isolation ward is a special room with its own airflow that allows the same care for sick patients as the ICU ward, but for patients that may have contagious illness.

Radio surgery
Radiosurgery is the use of radio waves instead of a scalpel blade. The advantages are similar to laser surgery: less blood loss and more precision. It is especially valuable when doing fine detail surgery or microsurgery such as is usually the case with birds and small exotics.

Radiography and Ultrasound
Radiography is essential to the veterinarian’s ability to make accurate diagnoses in complicated cases. GAH utilizes State of the Art equipment that delivers high detail films in just 3 minutes. We now have a high detail dental x-ray machine that has dramatically improved our ability to diagnose dental disease below the gum line.
Ultrasonagraphy is relatively new to the veterinary field but has dramatically improved our ability to make diagnoses by allowing us to look inside of organs such as the heart and liver without surgery or even anesthesia in most cases.

Video Endoscopy
GAH utilizes some of the most advanced tools available in the care for its patients. Fiber optic endoscopy allows the diagnosis of many intestinal and respiratory disorders without the use of more invasive and dangerous procedures. Our scopes also allow us to perform more advanced ear procedures when needed. We can also take digital images for viewing by the client or to send via email to specialist for expert opinions and advice.

Dental cleanings/extractions
Veterinary dentistry has progressed leaps and bounds over the last 10 years. Our dental station is well equipped for routine procedures like teeth cleaning (utilizing ultrasound scalers followed by polishing and fluoride treatment) as well as complicated extractions, oral surgeries, and gingival surgeries. Additionally, we offer Dental Radiography, dental sealing, and periodontal treatments. More complicated cases such as root canals and crowns are referred to a local specialist when indicated.

 |
On-site laboratory
Our laboratory is equipped to perform all the routine as well as specialized diagnostic tests, including tonometry (glaucoma testing), electrocardiography, and blood pressure assessment in addition to blood tests. Most routine lab tests are performed in the hospital with results available within minutes. For more specialized testing, we have accounts with over a dozen laboratories throughout the country - each lab being a specialist in a certain field (for example - Avian exotic labs in Ohio for avian blood profiles, MSU for endocrine assays, LSU for heavy metal analysis, etc.). Occasionally a medical or surgical case is complicated enough to warrant referral to a board certified specialist. We have a good working relationship with board certified veterinary surgeons, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, neurologists, and internists, all within an hour drive should a visit be necessary.

Pharmacy with onsite Compounding and Flavoring
Our well-stocked pharmacy allows us to fill most prescriptions so that you do not have to go to the drug store. The large variety of products we keep on hand also helps us provide the most current care available. We are also well skilled at compounding drugs (putting them into a form that is easier to administer) and locating rare and "special need" items. Recently we subscribed to the FlavorX medicine flavoring system that allows you to choose from over 2 dozen different flavors for your pet’s special taste.

Avian Medicine
Dr. Gross and staff have a strong interest in pet bird medicine. Dr. Gross and staff attend annual formal continuing education restricted to our avian friends every year. Approximately 15% of our clients own pet birds. All aspects of avian care are provided including client education, wellness exams, medicine, surgery, boarding, and special diets. Grafton Animal Hospital is one the few facilities on the peninsula that welcomes pet birds. In fact, many of our new bird patients are referred to us by other animal hospitals. Proficiency in avian medicine requires extra education, special equipment, and a commitment by staff. We are members of AAV and MASAAV, (two sources of education in Avian Medicine) and attend educational conferences at least annually.
