Yorktown Preventative Care for Pets
Schedule a Wellness Exam Today
Investing in preventative care is the easiest way to ensure that your pet lives a long, happy, and healthy life. Preventative care can help us track your pet’s health and treat minor problems before they become more serious. At Grafton Animal Hospital, we offer comprehensive preventative pet care services in Yorktown, Newport News, and beyond.
Routine Wellness Exams
Your pet’s overall health and well-being can be assessed, tracked, and maintained when you invest in regular wellness exams. Most pets benefit from an annual check-up, though very young pets and senior pets benefit from more frequent visits.
The first part of a wellness check-up at Grafton Animal Hospital is a physical exam.
Our physical exams include a head-to-tail assessment where we:
- Check body weight
- Look at the eyes, ears, and nose
- Check the lymph nodes
- Look in the mouth to assess the health of the teeth and gums
- Evaluate the heart and lungs
- Feel the abdomen to check the internal organs including the kidneys and liver
- Evaluate the muscles, spine, and joints
- Evaluate the nervous system
- Check the urogenital organs
After the examination, we carefully document our findings and give you our recommendations for any health problems we find.
On top of the physical exam, we may also:
- Administer vaccines
- Perform diagnostic tests
- Perform lab work/blood tests
- Discuss your pet’s diet and offer nutritional counseling
Depending on test results and our findings, we can develop a comprehensive care plan and help you take the next step in improving or maintaining your furry friend’s health.
